Cathy and Pete on Set Free

Set Free is a 50 foot steel sloop with a centre cockpit. She sleeps 6 – 8 people, with the master cabin and head in the stern. She cruises easily at an average of 7 – 8 knots under sail and motors along nicely at 6, using the 89 horse power Lister engine.

Pete, a carpenter by trade, is an experienced sailor, he’s sailed from Auckland to Albany, Sydney and around the Whitsundays, over 8,000 thousand nautical miles under his Pirate belt.

Cathy has had many lives, but currently teaches Dance, Drama and Film to people wih an intellectual diability. Originally from the UK, but has lived and worked around the world, including Canada, Hong Kong, Germany, Thailand, Finland and Egypt to name but a few. Her sailing experience has not been as extensive as Pete’s, but is willing to learn and loves the live aboard lifestyle.

They both have a wicked sense of humour, and there is always a lot of laughter when we are together.
The couple are also travelling with their exceptionally well behaved dog, Finn ( a Glenn of Imaal Terrier). Unusually, for a dog, he isn’t overly keen on walks, to the point of lying down halfway through them, so is very content to live aboard.

Cathy and Pete have a couple more years of work before they can go cruising. They plan to sail around Australia, then New Zealand, over to the islands, Russia, South America, and Canada...Or they might just find some delightful tropical islands and stay there!!
